British Journal of Photography reports: "It has been claimed that a manager for G4S, a security firm, has said that security guards working to protect the Olympic site in London are trained to deter people from taking photographs."

- L'Iris d'Or winner announced at Sony World Photography Awards 2012
Photography Monthly reports: "American photographer Mitch Dobrowner was last night announced as this year’s winner of the L’Iris d’Or at the 2012 Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year.
Dobrowner received the award at the Sony World Photography Awards Gala ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in London’s Park Lane for his series of images, Storms."

- BJP "Extreme wide-angle Nikkor lens goes on sale"
British Journal of Photography reports: "A rare fisheye Nikkor 6mm f/2.8 lens, which offers the "world's most extreme wide-angle" and is worth £100,000, has gone on sale at Gray's of Westminster in London.
First introduced in 1970 at the Photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany, the Fisheye-Nikkor 6mm f/2.8 lens offers an angle of view of 220º making it, at the time, the "world's most extreme wide-angle lens to cover an image area of 24x36mm."

- Royal Albert Hall gives young people unprecedented access for photographic exhibition
Photography Monthly reports: "The Royal Albert Hall has opened its ‘stage door’ to young people who are out of education, unemployed and not in training in a year-long project aiming to teach new skills - in particular photography.
For the past 12 months, UK Charity the Royal Albert Hall has been working with Kensington and Chelsea College and some of the UK’s best photographers to train thirteen disenfranchised young people termed as NEET (Not in Education, Employment and Training) in event and portrait photography."

- BJP "Photography exhibiition censored in New Delhi"
British Journal of Photography reports: "Late last month, the Alliance Française in New Delhi closed down an exhibition of Indian born and UK-based photographer Sunil Gupta's work after the organisation received a complaint over the content of Gupta's images.
The work, dubbed Sun City and Other Stories, depicts the double life of a homosexual man. He alternates between living out a romantic relationship above ground or in the open, and another life where he discovers the gay bath house and slowly progresses towards increasing degrees of intimacy with a series of anonymous partners."

- Viewfinder developing a photowalk to engage volunteers, locals and groups
Building on the previous pilot photowalk along the Thames, the Viewfinder is delighted to be developing a more ambitious photowalk with an accompanying app, in partnership with Future Communities and Greenwich Heritage Centre. The photographs taken on the walk will be published on our website, and also displayed to the public at a launch event.
We're delighted to have passed the first-stage application process with Heritage Lottery Fund, and are now preparing our application for the second stage. Watch this space!

- Nikon unveils social sharing-enabled digital SLR
The D3200 is the first social DSLR to be released by Nikon when used with a new accessory, worth £55, the WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter. The small device, which connects to the camera, allows users to wirelessly transfer their images to an Android smartphone using a dedicated app.
Users can also preview the live view screen and trigger the shutter from their phones. Nikon plans to release a similar app for iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad this autumn.

The Workshop: The Art of Seeing and the Rites of Holy Week
The Sardinia photography workshop will be an opportunity for students to experience
the Rites of Holy Week: rituals, festivals, and local events. The workshop will start
with an intensely focused photography workshop, The Art of Seeing, with Patrick
Keough, designed to enhance and expand your your way of seeing. Together with
the rituals surrounding Holy Week, the 7 day experience promises to be a rewarding
and visual experience.The Art of Seeing workshop will include daily formal photography instruction geared specifically to each photographer’s skill level, in addition to personal time to meander along the beautiful countryside and visit the local villages. There will also be excursions to a majestic waterfall, salt lakes with flamingos, ancient castles, a 3000 year old stone tower and a Byzantine church. A primary focus of the workshop will be photographing the Easter celebrations, rituals and choir processions in and around the villages of Sardinia.
Most evenings after local activities there will be a critique session and discussion
about the day's activities.
